WILD WELLNESS AT BANGOR DAY RETREAT

A$395.00

Exclusive access | Available by appt | Day retreat

FORESTIER PENINSULA, SOUTHEAST TAS

Explore the untamed with Wild Wellness

Venture down a winding gravel road with us – where the known world fades behind farm gates and into raw coastal wilderness few have laid eyes on. This land hums with history. It's the site of first contact between Tasmanian Aboriginal people and European explorers, home to the bay where Abel Tasman cast anchor in 1642. We'll be on land where more than 250 Tasmanian Devils roam; the largest wild population on the planet.

Bangor boasts 35 kilometres of commanding coastline. Rugged capes meet secluded coves. Today’s Wild Wellness playground spans 5,100 hectares of native forest, a sanctuary for Wedge-tailed Eagles tracing ancient thermals, swift parrots, and that elusive Tasmanian Devil.

Out on the Forestier Peninsula, private access allows us to go deep. We pad gently through towering Eucalypts, wander the pristine sands of Two Mile Beach, and crest the edge of 150-metre sea cliffs at Cape Frederick Hendrick. Our journey is guided by the elements and group feel; from a barefoot sandy wander through to an 8-kilometre adventure.

We pause through meditative breathwork and plunge in cool Tasmanian waters – optional but wildly invigorating! Our lunch is a picnic-style bounty of Tasmania’s best; freshly shucked oysters and a grazing platter bursting with regional flavours. We wrap hands round steaming mugs, our day inviting immersion into the relaxed Tasmanian way.

As we gather fireside for journaling you’ll discover the three pillars of Wild Wellness. The world slows, stillness settles in. Nearby, rolling waves weave into our consciousness. Thoughts loosen. Words find their way onto paper, carried by the same winds that have shaped this coast for millennia. Share or keep penned words for you; a portal to return to this moment. Out here, we shed the noise of modern life and listen to nature’s evocative voice. It’s rugged. Simple. Honest.

As the day draws to a close, we gather at Bangor Vineyard Shed – perhaps for a tasting, farewell hot chocolate, or a local treat to take home. Join us on this family-owned property, where the forest meets the sea.

THE WILD WELLNESS METHOD

The Wild Wellness Method is an Australian first - a merging of wellness professionals, decades of experience and global thought leaders - delivered through retreats, partnered walks and online courses. It's the latest antidote to modern day stress; a wholesome script to wellness - as seen on Channel 10's Well Traveller episode here.

Our Wild Wellness Day Retreat begins with powerful breathwork, and this prepares us for the insightfully designed program that spans our three core pillars of Wild Wellness.

During our time together we combine cold water plunging (though not compulsory, it's a sensory wonder for those who take the dive!), breathing techniques and cold water therapy. With powerful energy flowing we'll hit our Wild Wellness journals, following a specifically designed blueprint with Wild Wellness founder, Alice Hansen.

We believe there is no better place than Tasmania for wellness. It's one of the last wild frontiers, at the edge of the world. Here, we breathe some of the world's cleanest air. It's wild. It's also the home of national award-winning Wild Wellness.

This is no ordinary seaside experience.

We round out our time together with a sharing circle, looking out across the water to the dunes - strangers now connected through our Wild Wellness Day Retreat.

COLD THERAPY

Ready to invigorate your life? Discover the power of cold-water therapy during our optional morning plunge. We’ll go deep, exploring the benefits of cold water immersion. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never dipped a toe into cool waters or you’re an enthusiast from way back. You’ll learn strategies and tools that will last long beyond our time together. Expect to be challenged, reset and exhilarated.

BREATHING

Take a deep breath. Isn’t it about time? Learn ancient breathing techniques that work wonders and can be tapped into for a lifetime to come. This breathwork is about boosting energy, dropping stress, recalibrating the nervous system, detoxing your system and so much more.

WILD WELLNESS JOURNALING

Alice introduces you to Wild Wellness and its three pillars; connection, care and commitment. There is time for contemplation, gentle prompts and optional sharing of lived experience during our journaling session.

CANCELLATIONS

All bookings incur a 20% cancellation fee which is non-refundable. If you cancel within seven days of the event, the full retreat cost is incurred. Special/emergency cases can absolutely be discussed

WHAT IS WILD WELLNESS?

This blueprint for wellness is an Australian first; taking years of science-backed knowledge and condensing it into days. It’s a simple, wholesome wellness script. There is no better place on the planet to experience Wild Wellness than Tasmania.

Australia's Productivity Commission Report estimates mental illness is costing Australia $220 billion a year. Our burdened health system cannot cope. We believe there's another way ... a wilder way. No matter what your wellness goals might be, this method is about returning to you; listening in.

The method is based on three core pillars: connection, care and commitment. Think invigorating cold dips, nourishing Tassie fare and fireside journal writing. You'll discover a blueprint to lasting wellness. We take the best of the traditional model and bring it into nature’s office.

RETREAT TEAM:

DR. CHRIS DAVIS - ADDICTION SPECIALIST

Dr Chris is a Sydney-based GP at East Sydney Doctors. Originally from the UK, he was a Clinical Lead in Substance Misuse and Alcohol and a partner in a large inner city London practice for many years before emigrating to Sydney in 2014. Chris continued his studies and among other things gained a Diploma in Substance Misuse. While still in the UK, he designed the highly successful Clean Slate Clinic. This is a GP-led alcohol management and home detox clinic that he has introduced here in Australia.

ANNIA BARON - CLININCAL PSYCHOLOGIST & MINDSET COACH

Annia is a Mindset Coach & Clinical Psychologist, Yoga Teacher, and Musician. She alchemizes her love of neuroscience, holistic health practices, and creative arts to help others elevate their inner wellbeing. Annia has lectured in Psychology for the University of Tasmania, is the resident psychology writer for The Hobart Magazine, and collaborates with local Tasmanians to share their stories via her podcast. At the heart of it all, Annia is devoted to empowering others in cultivating compassionate living, deepening connection to community and nature, and celebrating the diversity and oneness in us all. Annia's joy is supporting you to create a life you desire and deserve.

PIET BLOKKER - WIM HOF-TRAINED

Piet was trained by none other than Wim Hof himself! Dutch born, Piet now calls North West Tasmania home and lives by a flowing river perfect for cold water plunging. At the age of 50, Piet was challenged with Lymphoma and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Realising he needed to take care of his health, he began learning about reflexology, energy healing and came across Wim Hof, taking the 10-week course straight away. It proved a lifesaving decision - his awakening process began and today Piet is enjoying life free from arthritis and cancer. A Wim Hof trained breath worker and cold-water therapy pro, Piet can't wait to guide you through your Bass Strait plunge.

ALICE HANSEN – FOUNDER/JOURNALING FACILITATOR

Alice is a professional travel writer and author. As the founder of the Wild Wellness Method, she has cultivated relationships spanning 20+ years with experts across the wellness field. On her quest to seek answers for her own struggles, she has connected with medical experts, international thought leaders and tapped into decades of experience to formulate a proven blueprint. Writing is a key element and she’ll guide you through a journaling process tailored to your wellness journey.

When she’s not at the laptop, you’ll find her on wild Tasmanian trails.

MONICA GERAEDTS DELFATTI & YVES GERAEDTS

We'll be joined by fly-in former international chef Monica who was worked in Hobart's finest restaurants and husband Yves (if he's not sand sculpting somewhere round the globe - he has held the world title!) This duo has catered for destination weddings through to serving up Tassie's best wood fired pizzas. Prepare to be entertained and beautifully nourished by this wholesome couple.

Those interested in reflexology, massage and merchandise can opt for these additional items at time of booking.

RETREAT ELEMENTS:

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST/LIFE COACH MASTERCLASS

Settle into the lounge as Annia shares professional insights in her Mindset Coaching Masterclass. Not only will Annia present her wisdom, but will open the floor to a Q&A session for guests to enjoy a conversational experience in our shared space where all can listen deeply and ask those questions we often don't get time to query in limited medical appointments or professional sessions. This is relaxed, open chats with a revered professional at its best by the seaside.

JOURNALING/CONTEMPLATIVE WALKING

The power of hitting pen to paper. It’s not new. Leonardo da Vinci’s journals spanned some 5,000 pages. But the therapeutic wonders of reflective writing didn’t emerge until the 1960s, when a New York psychologist devised what he coined the Intensive Journal Method. We won’t pen thousands of pages but we will invite self-discovery through the written word. Our Wild Wellness Journaling Method will cross our three foundational pillars.

We combine journal writing with optional contemplative walking. In a noisy world it’s rare to hear nature’s silence. But in this Tasmanian stillness, it’s possible to reconnect with you. Nature has a way of casting its healing spell. In Japan, it’s known as forest bathing (shinrin-yoku), and literally translates to bathing in the forest atmosphere. It doesn’t require anything of you but to tap into the senses and soak it in …

This is your retreat, your words and your Tasmanian journey.

WHAT IS THE WIM HOF METHOD?

It's a combination of breathing, cold therapy and commitment, offering a range of benefits. The power of the Wim Hof Method can help unlock a range of well-researched and documented health benefits including:

·      Rebalancing your immune system

·      Reducing inflammation

·      Improving focus, mood and cognitive function

·      Improving cardiovascular health

·      Balancing the body's stress response

COLD THERAPY

Ready to invigorate your life? Discover the power of cold-water therapy - delivering everything from reduced inflammation and better sleep through to increased immunity. Our morning submersions will have you feeling alive and energised.

Guided by Wim Hof-trained Piet, you'll discover the power of cold-water therapy and breathwork. We’ll go deep, exploring the benefits across four days of wilderness immersion. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never dipped a toe into our waters or you’re an enthusiast from way back. You’ll learn strategies and tools that will last long beyond your three days, under expert guidance. Expect to be challenged, reset and exhilarated.

BREATHING

Take a deep breath. Isn’t it about time? Learn scientific breathing techniques that work wonders and can be tapped into for a lifetime to come. This breathwork is about boosting energy, dropping stress, recalibrating the nervous system, detoxing your system and so much more.

NATURE

In Tasmania, we are gifted with nature in her most wild mood. We’ll immerse you in our island landscape to soak up its transformative ways. The Cove enjoys access to a stunning coastline that we’ll be exploring on foot together.

ALICE'S WORKSHOPS

Day 1: Tonight, we meet our Wild Wellness journals. Around The Cove fire or looking out to Bass Strait, we begin our writing. Alice introduces you to Wild Wellness and its three pillars; connection, care and commitment. Of the ‘three C’s’ this evening the sun sets as we contemplate connection.

Day 2: It’s journal time. Today, we explore care, namely self/soul care and care for others. Do you care for yourself as you would a dear friend? We ask questions and we let answers flow.

Day 3: Our final morning is about commitment. Wellness doesn’t just happen in three days. It’s not about escaping life - your retreat is lifelong with Wild Wellness. We make our commitments in writing and ensure we have plenty of fun, nature and joy weaved in.

WHAT IS WILD WELLNESS?

Australia's Productivity Commission Report estimates mental illness is costing Australia $220 billion a year. Our burdened health system cannot cope. Deep in this system of revolving rehab doors, I (Alice) began to wonder if there were other pathways when things got hard - wilder ways out. I mined the world for answers, from downtown Hobart to Colorado and spent wintery mornings diving into waves.

Over time, I gathered a team so fine that Wild Wellness became far greater than my own mission. This blueprint for wellness is an Australian first; taking years of science-backed knowledge and condensing it into days. It’s a wholesome wellness script based on three core pillars: connection, care and commitment.

I believe there is no better place to experience Wild Wellness than Tasmania. Whatever your wellness goals might be, this method is about returning to you; listening in.

RETREAT ELEMENTS:

MINDSET COACHING MASTERCLASS

Annia's joy is supporting you to create a life you desire and deserve. This Masterclass is under wraps for those who come to Bruny - her wisdom will move you.

We combine journal writing with optional pre-contemplative walking.

This is your retreat, your words and your Bruny Island journey.

WILD WELLNESS JOURNALING

Day 1: Tonight, we meet our Wild Wellness journals. Around the fire or cosy indoors, we begin our writing.

STORY AS SOUL MEDICINE

This ritualised story sharing experience taps into the sacred act of storytelling. Offering a richly immersive auditory experience for individual retreat guests or small groups for 90 minutes, the invitation is for guests to open themselves up to the healing power of being fully present while listening deeply to sound and stories. Find out more here.

COLD THERAPY

Ready to invigorate your life? Discover the power of cold-water therapy with Piet. Our morning submersions will have you feeling alive and energised. Those keen, can sink into one of our ice baths at the lodge. (Alice highly recommends this!)

We’ll go deep, exploring the benefits across three days of cold water immersion. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never dipped a toe into the Wim Hof Method or you’re an enthusiast from way back. You’ll learn strategies and tools that will last long beyond your three days, under expert guidance. Expect to be challenged, reset and exhilarated.

BREATHING

Take a deep breath. Isn’t it about time? Learn ancient breathing techniques that work wonders and can be tapped into for a lifetime to come. This breathwork is about boosting energy, dropping stress, recalibrating the nervous system, detoxing your system and so much more.

NATURE

On Bruny, we are gifted with nature in her most wild mood. We’ll immerse you in our island landscape to soak up its transformative ways. Bruny enjoys access to a stunning coastline that we’ll be exploring on foot together as well as rugged wilderness for those keen to venture further. Tack a day onto the start or end of the retreat and hit the trails.

HEALTH INFORMATION

All participants will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire and waiver during the booking process in relation to cold water immersion and retreat activities.

CANCELLATIONS

All bookings incur a 20% cancellation fee which is non-refundable. If you cancel within seven days of the retreat, the full retreat cost is incurred Special/emergency cases can absolutely be discussed.

Be Guided by Local Experts

Head into the wilderness with our all-star crew. From the skipper to the hand-picked expert guides, our talented and passionate team are the heart of this unforgettable experience. Their intimate knowledge of Tasmania will connect people to place. Plus, they’re funny and love to share a story (or three).

East Coast & the Tasman Peninsula

This picture-perfect coastline is renowned for endless blue horizons, azure waters, isolated islands (which also double as national parks) and pearly-white, pristine beaches.

Food & Drink

Meals are an indulgent culinary experience made from fresh seasonal Tasmanian produce. Our specialist chefs have been borrowed from some of Hobart’s top restaurants. Expect perfect picnics, freshly-baked cookies pulled from the oven just as hungry hikers return, and flavoursome feasts in what is quite possibly the most remote restaurant in Tasmania. Choose from a splendid selection of non-alcoholic offerings. Drink in hand, sink into a soft lounge and take in the everchanging view.

EXPEDITION HIGHLIGHTS

World-heritage listed Maria Island

Maria Island National Park is a haven for wombats, wallabies and Tasmanian devils. Head ashore for a stroll to the patterned Painted Cliffs via the historic convict settlement, or beachcomb along the island’s long, sandy isthmus.

Tasman Peninsula’s soaring sea cliffs

Cruise between the 300m dolerite towers of Cape Pillar, the tallest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere, and rugged Tasman Island. Hike to dizzying heights on the Cape Hauy clifftop walk. Search for seals, dolphins, migrating whales and sea birds.

Secluded beaches of Freycinet

Ashore and afloat, explore the pristine white beaches, turquoise waters and pink-granite peaks of the Freycinet Peninsula. Wineglass Bay’s beauty is world-renowned - we celebrate the lesser-known coves and corners too.

Think invigorating cold dips, silent walking beneath towering rainforest, nourishing Tassie fare and fireside journal writing. You'll discover a blueprint to lasting wellness featuring insights from Director of East Sydney Doctors, Dr. Chris Davis. We take the best of the traditional model and bring it into nature’s office.

WHAT IS THE WIM HOF METHOD?

It's a combination of breathing, cold therapy and commitment, offering a range of benefits. The power of the Wim Hof Method can help unlock a range of well-researched and documented health benefits including:

  • Rebalancing your immune system
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Improving focus, mood and cognitive function
  • Improving cardiovascular health
  • Balancing the body's stress response

WILD WELLNESS TEAM:

PIET BLOKKER - WIM HOF-TRAINED

Piet has been trained by none other than Wim Hof himself! It proved a life saving decision - his awakening process began and today Piet is enjoying life free from arthritis and cancer. A Wim Hof trained breathworker and cold water therapy pro, Piet can't wait to guide you through your Bass Strait plunge.

ALICE HANSEN – WILD WELLNESS FOUNDER/JOURNALING FACILITATOR

Alice is a professional travel writer and author. As the founder of the Wild Wellness Method, she has cultivated relationships spanning 20+ years with experts across the wellness field. On her quest to seek answers for her own struggles, she has connected with medical experts, international thought leaders and tapped into decades of experience to formulate a proven blueprint. Writing is a key element and she’ll guide you through a journaling process tailored to your wellness journey.

When she’s not at the laptop, you’ll find her on wild Tasmanian trails.

MEET THE TEAM:

Skipper/On Board Founder Pieter van der Woude

Pieter established On Board’s wilderness expeditions to share Tasmania’s far-flung coastal corners with those appreciative of a natural, wild world. Pieter has had a lifetime of experience on and under Tasmania’s waters. The former Tasmanian policeman worked in diving search and rescue before spending 25 years as an abalone diver. He has also employed his boat skills to load and unload ships even further south, for the Australian Antarctic Division. Pieter became familiar with southwest and east coast in his abalone days, before later deciding to invite visitors aboard to discover Tasmania’s playground of inlets, coves, rivers and bays aboard a sustainable, minimal-impact, floating boutique hotel.

Wim Hof-Trained Piet Blokker

Piet, a breathworker and cold therapy pro, has been trained by none other than Wim Hof himself! Dutch born, Piet now calls North West Tasmania home and lives by a flowing river perfect for cold water plunging. At the age of 50, Piet was challenged with Lymphoma and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
